The 10 Greatest Web Design Tips in 2011

Adam Price - Sunday, June 19, 2011
One of the most fantastic things about working in the digital space is the frequency with which it changes – and the speed with which new technologies can change the way we communicate, work, and get things done online.

Of course, quality web design is all about embracing innovation – not simply for design’s sake, but to ensure we’re utilising the very latest tools and techniques at our disposal to engage customers and help our clients achieve their objectives.

These days, web design isn't just graphic and web design, it very much takes the role of internet marketing specialist, covering such things as marketing functionality, navigation, usability, SEO and even copywriting.

What 2011 predictions do we have for 2011?
Following is the first of a series of web design requirements in 2011.

Here's the top 10:

1. Mobile design is of utmost focus During the past few years, there's been a wide array of mobile devices which loan themselves to the new web design marketing trends and offer a very high quality web experience.

It's no longer the only consideration to have your website crafted for laptops or large computer monitors, you design needs to take into consideration smart devices like phones, netbooks, tablets and whole range of other devices on the horizon so you have at least a minimum of 3 years compatibility with your web design before investing more money to update.

You have to really take into consideration mobile devices for viewing, and either co-create a site for this multiple functions or create 2 separate sites. Some excellent examples of mobile sites which have embraced this technology are domain.com.au and smh.com.au. They're both easy to navigate, and dual purpose. It's super important however to ensure your visitors can view the non-mobile version if they wish easily, even if they're viewing from a mobile device.
