Gone are the days of consistent web navigation, more and more we are seeing non-consistent forms of navigation, for example a homepage navigation is very different to the sub-pages on a site. In the past this was a big no-no, and this was looked upon poorly by usability experts. But as the web becomes more popular and users get used to the varying processes of navigation there's more and more different approaches occuring, especially if these navigation processes are making it easier to use and follow.
